Jane Larkin and Mei Ichinose share a moment during filming "The Edge".
Sprinter, an actress, and an independent filmmaker - Jane Larkin can do it all. The Sunshine Coast athlete is currently producing, directing and starring in her own film.
[Jane] 'There aren't enough films about some really awesome diversities like Paralympians, First Nations athletes, and female athletes. I want to inspire people and we're trying to represent diversity and be kick-ass women'.
She said she was inspired to write after meeting Mei, a Japanese Paralympic swimmer while training on campus.
[Mei] 'My purpose to do swimming was always not just about the results, or the records, or the medals, but it was a way to deliver my message, that I'm not disabled. I am actually able'.
The film is centre around Mei, Jane and a First Nations powerlifter, Lily Riley, and showcases the highs and lows of competitive sport.
[Jane] "A powerlifter doesn't look like a swimmer, and a swimmer doesn't look like a track and field sprinter, but we should be celebrated for our differences."
Final scenes for 'The Edge' are shooting this week at UniSC.
[Jane] 'We're really hoping for "The Edge" to be out on streaming services with as theatrical release later this year. But there's a possibility it will be out next year, but stay tuned.'
